www.dvdavenue.tv totally screwed me

Now for the record, I like to think of myself as an intelligent person. Granted, my constant hovering around a “C” average academically might not always illustrate that. But what I lack in an overly exceptional school performance, I feel I make up for in the realm of common sense and reason.

Yet every so often I do something stupid. Something really really stupid, so stupid in fact, that I can’t help but question by own steadfast belief in my intelligence. I am currently suffering from the ramifications of such a stupid action and I would like to tell you my tale so that perhaps you can avoid making a similar mistake.

Disappointing Endings – Kane and Lynch: Dead Men (Video Game)

(WARNING: This post contains spoilers for the game Kane and Lynch: Dead Men)

Just the other day one of my friends and I completed the Playstation 3 version of Kane and Lynch: Dead Man. I’ve heard much mixed reactions to the game, some people enjoyed in greatly well others felt it was a huge let down.

Personally I found the experience of blowing through the game in two day period on co-op mode to be enjoyable. The game was engaging and had some nice variety. I will admit though that at times the game frustrated me. One such frustrating element would be the aiming system, which (for me at least) was a little unwieldy at points.

Periodically stubborn controls aside, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men is solid gaming experience, but there is one area of the game that personally let me down a lot: the ending.

Cloverfield Monster R.I.P.?

I don’t think I’ve been so satisfied with a movie I’ve seen in the theaters since Batman Begins. Sure, there were a lot of good things in-between (Serenity, 28 Weeks Later, 30 Days of Night) but Cloverfield was everything I expected and a little bit more. Therefore, I was very interested when I saw this picture along with a few others up on the Cloverfield main site. It seems to be parts of the monster as if it’s dead and there’s no chance of a sequel but I’m going to throw out some suggestions.

Since I can’t really tell what those are supposed to be pieces of it is possible that those are just whale carcasses that the monster killed when it was in the water that washed up on shore?

Or, what if the monster has the ability to shed body parts and those are just some remains?

Also, even if that really is the whole monster dead and decomposing, it did have spawn so that doesn’t completely rule out anything.

There’s also this reversed audio clip from after the credits that has been floating around the internets.

Please, if you have any comments or ideas please leave them. I enjoy discussing this.

Beautiful Katamari DLC Outrage

I’ve loved the Katamari series since day one. Katamari Damacy’s totally unique game play of rolling objects into a ball and design made me absolutely fall in love with it. The second entry in the series, We Love Katamari, added completely new level design such as rolling up a ball of flammable objects to make a bon fire, rolling up a sumo wrestler to help him beat his opponents, rolling the largest katamari with a limited number of objects, and rolling up snow to make a snow man. I’m going to skip the “third” game, Me & My Katamari because I’ve never played it, and I consider it an offshoot of sorts since it is a portable game. Therefore, I was very excited when I found of the next game in the series would be on the 360, not the PS3, because I own one. Little did I know that I would be blackballed for downloadable content on Xbox Live Arcade when it came out.

Movie Review: The Monster Maker

Following on the coat tails of my previous review of “Dead Men Walk” comes my review of “The Monster Maker”. I have both movies on a double feature DVD and watched them on the same day so it only makes sense that I’d review them back to back. Don’t think that this is my last review of a bad black and white horror movie because I have plenty more where these came from.

Movie Review: Dead Men Walk

I’m sure people are going to say “Greg, isn’t it too easy to poke fun at old movies” and my answer will be “yep”. Now, “Dead Men Walk” isn’t bad per-say, just horribly uninteresting. It’s obvious that this movie was attempting to cash in on Universal’s popular vampire movies (they start with dra and end with cula) and just falls flat on its face.   Dare you continue reading?

The 1966 Batman Series DVD Release Debacle

Originally I wanted to hold off on writing this post. However as of late the blog has been in desperate need of some new content and since I don’t really have any good reviews lined up, I guess I’ll just go ahead with this post.

You could consider this post a follow up to my “Spiderman TAS DVD Release Debacle” post. For once again I find myself venting anger over the mishandling of a great series.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Cover Rant

Now let me clear up a few things up right away. As of the writing of this post I have not yet played Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. In fact I don’t own a Wii or DS, so I couldn’t play it even if I wanted to. This post is not about ripping on the game itself. I’m sure it’s probably a very entertaining game. After all, you have two of the all time greatest video game characters in one game. The novelty of that alone is enough to warrant a try of the game.

So if I don’t have any problems with the game itself, then why I am I writing this post? Well my issue is with the cover of the game.

Just an empty box…

To say my life sucks would be an understatement. A few weeks ago I “won” an auction for Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever on eBay (I put won in quotes because with Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever, no one is a winner). Every day I’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival and was very excited when I found that it came today in the mail. I opened up the package, took off the newspaper it was wrapped in, opened the box, and found nothing. I received an empty DVD case in the mail. Franticly I searched through the trash to see if the disk was somewhere in the wrapping but nothing. I have an EMPTY box.

Comic Book Review: The Good Guys (Defiant Comics)

Oh Defiant Comics, how I loathe thee. My first brush with you was an issue of Plasm I had in my youth. Even at a young age I was able to pick up that book and think “Wow, this is a piece of crap.” A few weeks ago when I came across “The Good Guys” I picked it up and had the same reaction that I had to Plasm oh so long ago.
