I can say that Chi’s Sweet Home is without a doubt the best anime that has ever been made about a cat. It perfect captures the mannerisms of a cat and delivers it to you in small bite sized episodes.
So far four episodes of the show have been subbed into English and at about two and a half minutes each are very short and to the point. Wait, what point? Well I’ll get into that by summing up the first four episodes.
- Episode 1: Chi gets separated from its cat family and is found by a human family in the park.
- Episode 2: The human family brings Chi to their house and gives it a bowl of milk.
- Episode 3: The family gives Chi a bath, much to its displeasure.
- Episode 4: Chi tries to leave to find its cat family but is distracted by a leaky faucet and a string.
It’s amazing how this show correctly portrays how cats act. From the way Chi struggles when it is being held to the way Chi is easily distracted by a shoestring and winds up in a battle with a shoe. So far almost every episodes has had a point where I’ve thought, “wow, that’s exactly how my cat would act in that situation.”
I’m astounded that this show met my expectations in every way. A few weeks ago in a post I said how I expected the show to be about a cat doing stuff like napping in the sun and it seems like I was right. This show is in every way about a cat doing cat stuff and little more. For the length of the show this makes sense. They’re not going to dick around with character development and whatnot. This show is just two minutes of pure unadulterated catness.
So if you like cats, or you’ve just got a couple minutes to waste, I would recommend you watch this show.
I never liked cat but having a break from too much action or shoujo-genre anime once in a while is a great idea.
I liked it, but I think it would have been even better if there were no words at all.
The cat’s situations and feelings are obvious so there isnt much need for dialogue. It would make the cat more authentic.
