Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition Actually Worth It

Now usually I stray away from the special editions of games, mainly because I don’t want to pay extra for a GTA4 lock box or a Ninja Gaiden stylus. The collector’s edition for Fallout 3, however, seems to come with things that are actually good.

Now I’m afraid that I may not like the game as much as I did it’s predecessors since the new one is going to be a major design by Bethesda. I didn’t like Oblivion very much but I’m hoping that Fallout 3 will be better. I really have no reason to assume it will be better than Oblivion, I’m just living on hope. Even if I may not be crazy about the game itself, I’m going to enjoy the items that come with the Collector’s Edition anyway.

Included are:

  • Fallout 3 Art Book: I’m not a fan of art books, mainly because they’re boring, but this one is hardcover and should be filled with some interesting post-apoc stuff.
  • Vault Boy Bobble Head: Genius. Now if only there were some Vault Boy stickers.
  • Making of DVD: I really enjoy watching developer videos, I remember the ones included with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance were fun to watch.
  • Lunch Box: Finally! Here I’ve been carrying my sandwiches around in my pockets.

At only $20 more than the regular version I would say that this is worth it, especially if you are a fan of the series. Game studios seem to be going down this path of “multiple SKUs” which is a double edged sword because they either put thought into what they are including, such as with Fallout 3, or just throw overpriced crap at you, such as GTA4. It’s really up to the consumer to show which bundles are worth the money and which are just junk. If the collector’s edition really isn’t worth it, don’t buy it compulsively or else you’re just going to keep getting junk.

If you’re interested in this package, and in supporting this blog, you can preorder it from Amazon through us.
