If you are a regular Youtube user then there is a good chance you have at least a passing familiarity with Youtube’s video game reviewing community. There are many Youtubers that use their channel to review video games. For some time now I’ve wanted to write a post in honor of one of my favorite reviewers but there are just so many that I couldn’t decide just one to choice. Rather than focus on some of the more well known reviewers like the Angry Video Game Nerd or Armake21 I opted to go with a reviewer that I feel is largely underappreciated.
The reviewer that I’m talking about is a man by the name of Howard Cneal. His Youtube account name is kolibiri and it can be found right here. Cneal’s approach is pretty simple; he plays all the games he reviews on an emulator, capturing the video as he plays while simultaneously recording his comments. Every review is spur of the moment and as a result carries that unique appeal that comes with unscripted videos. Cneal reviews games from mostly old school consoles and takes an often alphabetical approach that sees him reviewing every single title released for a console. So as one would expect many of the games he reviews are ones that he is playing for the first time. While such a practice hardly gives his reviews accuracy that is completely beside the point. You see Cneal’s reviews are all about having fun. They are not meant to be taken serious they are just produced for the sake of entertainment. And they work because Cneal just so happens to be a very entertaining individual. You have to be a gifted comedian if you can look at a game that is completely in Japanese but still manage to improv 2-3 minutes of hilarious material. Some of the tangents he gets off into are just plain inspired.
If you are looking to see some videos that take a light hearted approach to video gaming then I suggest you swing by Mr. Cneal’s channel.
Yeah, that boy’s a rocket! Every review is a celebration.
Peace out to Howard!
My favorite youtuber! All of his videos are just pure, comedic gold. Love this guy.
