A recent leak of upcoming game information from Activision contains good news for Marvel fans. Not only has the story for Ultimate Alliance 2 been revealed, but it also seems that a game based on the Marvel Zombies universe may be in the works.
For anyone who has played Ultimate Alliance through to the end, a sequel is pretty obvious. The final scene shows Galactus coming to Earth and pretty much screams, “Hey, there’s going to be another one!” I was still surprised when I saw what the storyline is going to be, but after a second I realized exactly how that is going to come together with the final scene from the first game.
Apparently the story of the second game is going to revolve around the recent Civil War that we’ve all come to hate love. While the leaked information didn’t mention any specifics, it can be assumed that Iron Man will be leading the “pro-registration” side and Cap the “anti-registration” side, as they did in the comics. How is this going to tie in with the Galactus scene from the previous game, you say? My bet is that the Civil War will occur, and both sides will have to work together in the end to defeat Galactus. Simple. Maybe it will even turn out that the Civil War was perpetrated by Galactus in some way.
More shocking was the mention of a Marvel Zombies game. I’ve been a fan of the Marvel Zombies universe ever since it’s creation in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four and have thoroughly enjoyed both Marvel Zombies 1 and 2, the one shot Dead Days, and the spin off Army of Darkness series. What I find strange, however, is the fact that it is titled “Spider-Man vs Marvel Zombies”. Spider-Man is one of the main zombies in the books, and eats his fair share of raw meat, including Mary Jane and Aunt May.
I’m rather scared of what direction they will take with the game. Zombies are an incredibly gory subject that may not translate very well into a game, especially one they want to sell to a wide audience. By making Spider-Man the main character it is obvious that they want this to appeal to a large market, but would that also mean that they are willing to cut back on the violence in order to get a T rating? Honestly, a game about zombies with a T rating would make no sense at all. Nevertheless, I’m happy that a Marvel Zombies game may come out and I’ll play it no matter what.
