For Marvel Entertainment Group;
Joe Quesada, Stan Lee, Avi Arad, and all others whom it may concern -
Marvel Studios has, thus far, proved to be a fantastic venture. The films to come out of Marvel Studios thus far have been truer to the characters, have been better written, and featured ensemble casts. This much cannot be argued. One could argue their effectiveness, i.e. Incredible Hulk’s performance, but the films have been top notch.
However, I don’t believe Marvel Studios is being implemented as effectively as it can be. The studio is a great opportunity because characters that ordinarily would not be given the opportunity to have a large scale theatrical release can be done in a tasteful manner, with a script worthy of the character. It was done with Iron Man, a film I never thought I’d see done right, and, for the most part, Hulk was fixed. That’s all well and good, but I want to see the envelope pushed.
I want to see a full length feature film about Deadpool.
You say, at this point, the fans need to tell the studio what they want exactly, in order for you to make it. Well, I want a Deadpool movie. It wasn’t necessarily possible before, but it is now, for a few reasons.
Firstly, people are starting to take comic book movies seriously. The Dark Knight wasn’t just carried by its superior acting – the film provided a social commentary on complex issues such as freedom and morality, human nature and chance. This newfound ability by the public to actually look at comic movies like they do ordinary films means you can cover a lot of the issues the character Deadpool deals with and not come off as being hackneyed. The issue of morality in Deadpool books has always been worth examining, and a feature film will expose many to the character, and his nuances, in a way that his new series isn’t going to be able to. Deadpool has always provided an interesting take on the cost of life – how far one person would go to maintain his, and how far he can go before he loses his humanity – and what is humanity exactly?
The character provides breathing room for development, has an interesting origin story that won’t necessarily weigh down the film (especially since it looks like he’s going to be in that Wolverine flick in 2009), and, let’s face it, would just be fun to watch.
the Merc with the Mouth has always been a fan favorite, and has garnered a cult following, making his way into many of Marvel’s newer ventures, including X Men Legends 2, Ultimate Alliance, and Hulk Vs. Wolverine. As the character gains in popularity, a feature length film is the next logical step in his progression. I mean, even Howard the Duck got one. Isn’t there any justice in the world?
See, Deadpool could be that R-rated film that The Punisher was supposed to be – action-packed, bloody, serious, while maintaining a sense of humor. It fits perfectly in line with the type of films Marvel Studios is making a name for itself doing, just a little edgier.
Marvel’s always made a name for itself by being a bit edgier. When X-Men came out, the blatant metaphor for race relations was a slap in the face to many. When Marvel published Amazing Spider-Man without the Comics Code Authority seal, it was edgy. When Marvel killed Captain America, it was edgy. Marvel Studios has the opportunity to carry on Marvel’s tradition of being pioneers, this time for the comic book movie institution. We – loyal Deadpool fans, nay, loyal Marvel fans – want to see it happen.
The time is right, and we loyal fans of Deadpool deserve to be able to walk into a theater at midnight on a Thursday with overpriced popcorn and soda, and for just two hours, get to know the Merc with the Mouth just a little better.
In short, when it comes to watching characters we know and love manifested onscreen, make mine Marvel Studios, get the rights to Deadpool back, and make a Deadpool movie already!

FYI Deadpool is under the Fox contract bud. Marvel Studios can’t make a Deadpool movie.
Any characters under the X-Verse are at Fox (Ex: Wolverine, Deadpool, Gambit)
Any characters under the Fantastic Four universe are at Fox. (Ex: Silver Surfer)
Spidey Universe at Sony.
Ghost Rider…Sony.
Daredevil & Elektra still at New Regency. (Ex: Kingpin)
So talk to the producers at Fox like Katz, Winter, etc…
Advanced Dark,
I am aware of who owns the rights to Deadpool. I clearly stated Marvel Studios should get the rights back from 20th century fox in the final paragraph. I don’t want to see 20th Century Fox do a Deadpool movie – I want it done right, in the mighty marvel manner.
Why do you think Fox shouldn’t do the movie? They made a great X-Men trilogy and I have very high hopes for Magneto’s & Wolverine’s tie in’s with the X-Men trilogy.
The thing I fear would be done wrongfully or perhapse undone is the humor; the humor is scarce to none in Spider-Man movies when he is Marvel’s first and most celbrated comidian so a Deadpool movie should be written well and be very well studied before shooting it it make sure their is balance between the mercenary work, his action’s as a hero and his most superior humor.
Every action movie has a major villan, the only major villain Deadpool has is T-Ray who actually is “Wade Wilson” and his name was taken by Deadpool, to make T-Ray done right the film will be very compressed with a very shortened story.
*sigh*.
That X-Men series was decent, if you were four years old and had read about as many X-Men comics. Let’s be real, the standards for superhero flicks has risen dramaticaly and I doubt Fox can cut the mustard after a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE X3. We’ll see what happens when Wolverines spinoff comes out, but I expect a clusterfuck.
Humor should be a non-issue is Marvel Studios does it, which is why I want them to. See Iron Man, chief?
to make T-Ray done right, actually, champ, they’d need a ton of time. They need to retell the Deadpool origin, have him “kill” the original Wade, and then start hanging around at Hell House, and do a few jobs before they do a big reveal and battle with T-Ray, in which Deadpool loses his middle finger. That’s the way I see it making the most sense.
