The Future Looks Bright For DC Animated Direct-To-Videos

After reading this article over at The World’s Finest, I just had to take the time to make a post expressing my shear joy over what’s happening with DC animated direct-to-videos.

In the article it is mentioned that the continuation of the direct-to-video series is dependent largely on good sales. As long as the latest movie does well, then more movies will be greenlit. If the future movies maintain the same high quality of the first three then I have no doubt that fans will eagerly continue to support this endevour. In doing this line of direct-to-videos, DC has opened up a whole new world of possibility. There are so many stories in the illustrious history of DC comics that deserve to get an animated film treatment.

One adaptation that I personally would like to see is the famous Batman: Knightfall arc. The arc in which Bane breaks Batman’s back and temporarily puts him out of commission. Granted many elements from 17 month long story arc would have to be dropped in order to get the story done in one single movie. But if they could do a movie based on The Death of Superman, an arc that also stretched over an year, then they could surely find a way to do Knightfall.

Now in an article that is packed with so much awesome news, the one thing that really jumps out at me is Bruce Timm mentioning the possible production of Justice League: World’s Collide. World’s Collide would be set in the DCAU and that is notion which truly brings a smile to my face. While it’s exciting to see unique, standalone animated features, I will always have a desire to see more shows/movies done in the DCAU. With such a complex connected universe, their will never be an end to the stories that can be told in it.

Just what direct-to-videos will be heading our way in the future remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, the future looks bright for DC animated direct-to-videos.
